The Rio Tinto Iron Ore (RTIO) Asset Management division is responsible for delivering capability, maximising the sustainable business value and managing the opportunities and risks related to the physical assets of Pilbara Iron across its operations of mines, ports, rail and infrastructure in the Pilbara, WA.

The Asset Management division comprises specific teams dedicated to: fixed plant; mobile plant; rail; electrical, hydrocarbon and water utilities; structural integrity; business services and statutory compliance, Inventory Management and Asset Disposal; that service the various divisions of West Pilbara, East Pilbara, Coastal, Rail, Utilities and Accommodation and Town Management. These teams address challenges, identify opportunities, develop strategies, establish best practices, lead capability development and implement programs and / or projects to improve the performance of our assets to realise value to the business.

About the role:
Due to strong continued growth, our Asset Management division would like to appoint a Specialist Asset Programs, reporting to the Manager - Strategic Programs and Support. The primary focus of this role is to provide business solutions to complex issues, deliver or assist with the delivery of strategic projects and engagement of staff to ensure that a culture of rigorous Business Improvement, Project Management and problem solving is fostered to develop the business capability to deliver results.

Particular areas of accountability include:
  • Proactively identify and assist in scoping asset management projects using recognised methods to apply rigor building the business cases to enable decision making
  • Provide Project Management expertise to develop project implementation plans and deliver sustainable value for the projects via the project teams.
  • Proactively engage the various departments within Asset Management to build value models for projects and complete monthly analysis to report the benefit of the project to various stakeholders
  • Lead various teams and departments in identify and implement business improvement opportunities using a structured approach.
  • Contribute towards the enhancement of an improvement culture within the business through the delivery of complex projects that provide tangible commercial benefits to the business
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships across RTIO, the wider Rio Tinto and externally to leverage knowledge, expertise and maximise improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure adherence to Iron Safe requirements and compliance with Health, Environment and Risk Standards

About you:
To be successful for this role, you will acquire a good knowledge of Pilbara Iron operational areas which include Mines, Ports, Rail & Utilities, and proven experience developing processes, solutions, systems and implementing standards particularly through the Six Sigma methodology, to ensure obligations are met and that appropriate best practices are implemented.

Other key requirements of the role include:

Essential:
  • Bachelor of Business/Commerce (BBus) - or equivalent experience in a business improvement or project management role or experience in management accounting or as an analyst
  • Six Sigma Black Belt
  • Comprehensive understanding of business financials and drivers
  • Resource / Mining or Energy / Utility Sector Experience is highly desirable
  • Sound Operational Experience
  • Leadership Experience
