Position: Assistant Manager, Communications (Code: OCC/Comms)
Work Location: Central Singapore

Responsibilities:
  • Generate news and communications pieces on research and science
  • Writing news releases and reports for research-oriented and general news-oriented audiences
  • Work with our Research faculty and the Communications team to develop interesting news angles for articles and pitch stories to contacts in the industry
  • Cultivate good media relations with local and international science and medical media contacts as well as contacts at partner institutions
  • Proofreading and editing news and scientific releases and reports
  • Coverage of school-organized medical congresses, meetings and press conferences (when required)
  • Developing advertorial materials in partner publications as required

Requirements:
  • Degree in Journalism, Mass Communications and previous study in a biomedical science field (preferably up to degree level) OR
  • Biomedical Science degree with experience and/or qualifications in Journalism or Mass Communications
  • At least 3-4 years’ working experience in a similar communications or editorial capacity, preferably in research-oriented agencies and institutes, pharmaceutical companies or PR agencies handling relevant accounts
  • Those who have a strong interest and flair for science communications and editorial work are also welcome to apply
  • Familiarity with academic publications and journals, and how they operate (eg: editorial, publication and embargo policies)
  • Excellent news sense – what makes news in science
  • Excellent writing, interviewing, proofreading and editing skills
  • Able to deliver high quality work under pressure of multiple editorial project deadlines
  • Good time management and deadline-oriented: multi-tasking skills essential
  • Proactive and able to work independently
