Position: Lead Mechanical Contact Engineer
Work Location: Chalmette/New Orleans, LA
Job Summary:
- Fill a fixed equipment mechanical engineering technical specialist position in support of a single oil refinery.
- Provide in-depth technical leadership and support to the refining site with a focus on troubleshooting, asset improvement, technology selection, research, and standards/procedure development.
- Located in Chalmette, LA, with possible short or long-term relocation opportunity to other company engineering or manufacturing sites. Job function reports to Fixed Equipment Technical Services Department Supervisor and Department Head.
Primary Job Functions:
- Respond to plant operational events.
- Analyze site fixed equipment performance.
- Drive site asset improvement in the areas of: Safety, Reliability, Environmental Performance and Equipment Capability in a team environment.
- Assist site in application of new technology.
- Provide regional technical leadership via involvement (participation / facilitation) in formal technical networks / work groups.
- Develop and deliver technical training and provide mentorship for Technical Services Department engineers and inspectors.
- Support capital projects and minor modifications in the areas of design consulting, technical quality assurance, and start-up assistance.
- Develop and maintain site specific technical standards, guidelines, procedures, and best practices.

Qualifications/ Preferred Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:
- Required B.S. or higher Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Previous professional experience required - preferably within an operating company, major engineering contractor or vendor (petrochemical or other heavy industry experience strongly desired).
- Knowledge of petrochemical industry fixed equipment including pressure vessels, heat exchanger equipment, piping, valves, gaskets, and associated repair devices.
- Experience with fixed equipment should include design, design reviews, re-rates, stress analysis, fitness for service evaluations, troubleshooting, commissioning, start-up, maintenance and overhaul.
- Knowledge of analysis and modeling methods including stress analysis, fitness for service, and root cause investigation techniques.
- Knowledge of industrial design and construction codes related to fixed equipment, including knowledge of control and safety facilities.
