Description:
Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a talented and innovative Executive Director & Executive Counsel to join our Legal department located at our Bedford, OH facility. The Executive Director & Executive Counsel provides a broad range of legal services, to Clients at the CMC level or below. Level of counseling provided requires in depth knowledge of the business and management, and ability to communicate the legal risks associated with making specific strategic decisions. The impact of all legal advice provided at this level is extremely high, as strategic decision makers incorporate expert counsel into their decision making process. Duties include counseling and drafting of legal documents and provision of legal counsel. Should provide expert advice in at least two specialized areas (e.g., patents, FDA Regulatory, commercial, litigation, etc.); and have a strong generalist background so as to issue spot in a variety of additional areas of law. Clear knowledge as to how legal advice impacts the company on a global basis.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepares complex legal documents, including letters, notices, legal opinions, contracts, patent or trademark applications, court/administrative filings, licenses, corporate documents, etc. Typically supervises and trains more junior attorneys in the drafting of such documents. Prepare such documents on matters of strategic importance.
- Recognized by peers in Legal Department and business units as having expert knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations and policies in several specialized legal areas; strong working knowledge of laws, regulations and policies in one or more other specialized legal areas; ability to interpret and apply such laws, regulations and policies to inform business activities. Regularly demonstrates ability to gather legal input from several different complex areas and apply that law to complex business situations in order to ensure excellent business decision making.
- Influences clients by proactively identifying and communicating to clients risks associated with complex business activities within lawyer's broad understanding of several specialized legal areas; IS recognized as THE Legal Department expert in certain designated areas of law; provides training and business advice to clients on applicable legal issues within lawyer's broad legal expertise.
- Partners with clients by considering immediate business/legal issues in a broader business context and identifying broader business purposes and objectives ; gathering legal input from one or more other inside or outside counsel to proactively apply broad legal expertise to address both the specific business activity and influence the broader business purposes and objectives; developing alternative fact hypotheticals and legal solutions to clarify options and enable the achievement of successful business outcomes.
- Takes the lead or partners with VPs in negotiating on behalf of client to achieve solutions that attain business objectives.
- Confers with other in-house and outside counsel where appropriate. Also advises, partners with or engages in-house or outside counsel where appropriate.
- Manages attorneys, and may manage other managers. Manages administrative assistants, paralegals and/or other personnel within department. Mentors and/or trains groups of attorneys, paralegals, administrative assistants and/or other personnel within department. Takes on significant departmental administrative responsibilities within the legal department consistent with the objectives of the legal department. Is a member of cross-boarder teams.
- Strong knowledge of national business environment in which client competes, including knowledge of business competitors. Working knowledge of international business and legal environment. Keeps current with evolving legal and business issues within lawyer's broad expertise, promotes corporate policies and proactively monitors client's business environment.

Requirements
Required Education & Experience:
- Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school
- Minimum 10 years relevant legal experience
- Admission to at least one State bar.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills;
- Demonstrates discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
- Experience managing attorneys or paralegals.
- Computer Literacy required including email and fundamental computer navigation.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
- Must be willing to submit to a background investigation, including verification of your past employment, criminal history, and educational background
- Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)
- Must be 18 years of age or older
