
Queensland Health Requires Director of Emergency Trauma for Townsville

Position: Director of Emergency Trauma, Institute of Surgery
Work Location: Townsville
Lead the development and ongoing management of the Trauma Service at The Townsville Hospital (TTH) and Health Service District in collaboration with the Statewide Trauma Clinical Network, other Health Service Districts and facilities within the Townsville catchment area in order to facilitate and improve the care of adult and paediatric trauma patients. This will involve the provision of specialist trauma expertise and advice for patients of all surgical and medical departments, in conjunction with the relevant surgical/medical specialists and the broader multidisciplinary trauma team/s.

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following key attributes. Within the context of the responsibilities described above, the ideal applicant will be someone who can demonstrate the following:
- A high level knowledge of trauma, with experience of working in one or more tertiary hospitals.
- Experience in acute resuscitation and care of complex adult AND paediatric multi-trauma patients.
- A firm understanding of the importance of the ‘continuum of care’ for the trauma patient from time of injury until the end of rehabilitation.
- A clear understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the various healthcare providers involved with caring for the trauma patient throughout their ‘trauma journey’.
- Demonstrated involvement in continuing education in the field of trauma.
- Demonstrated commitment to research within the field of trauma.
- A thorough understanding of the relationship between clinical decisions and resource utilisation.
- Knowledge of the implications of activity-based funding for clinicians practicing in the hospital environment will be an advantage.
- A higher research degree (or significant progress towards a higher degree) will be considered a significant attribute.
Qualifications/Professional registration/Other requirements:
- Medical degree with a Specialist Qualification Emergency Medicine, Anaesthetics, Intensive Care, or Surgery, registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a specialist.
- Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and current registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager prior to commencement of clinical duties.
