Job Description:
Rio Tinto Technology and Innovation has a requirement to fill a HSE Coordinator, Technology & Innovation - PDI position within their Project Development and Implementation (PDI) group. The PDI group has a Project Delivery Hub located in Salt Lake City, UT USA.
Technology and Innovation's (T&I) mandate is to increase the contribution of technology to Rio Tinto's vision of industry leadership. Project Development & Implementation (PDI), as part of T&I, provides support and project delivery services across the global Rio Tinto group.
The HSE Coordinator will oversee the Health, Safety, and Environmental activities of Rio Tinto contractors. Assist the HSE Manager & HSE Superintendent to implement health, safety, and environmental management program & performance standards. Provides professional HSE context in field operations.
Accountabilities:
- Ensure compliance of contractors with health safety and environmental regulations and Rio Tinto standards
- Assist contractor HSE Representatives
- Conduct and Document field inspections and assessments
- Assist with development, implementation and maintenance of the health safety and environmental training programs
- Develop and present HSE awareness programs
- Stand in for HSE Manager or Superintendent while they are on rotation to provide HSE context in coordination meeting and pre-bid / pre-construction meetings
- Interpret HSE standards in the field and provide clarifications as needed
- Assist contractors with completion of their SHEAP
- Function as a member of the RTLM HSE Team
- Assist with the implementation of Rio Tinto HSE standard and act as a protocol manager for various Performance Standards
- Support the reporting and investigation of incidents onsite
- Monitor near misses and incident trends to identify potential areas of risk
- Maintain on-site monitoring programs including PM10, personal air, vibration, and dust
- Maintain air monitoring results on the environmental monitoring database
- Risk analysis, root cause analysis in accident investigation
Qualifications:
- Associates degree in Industrial Safety, Hygiene Science or related field preferred
- 5 years experience in construction/mining safety
- OSHA 30 Hr., MSHA 24 HR., Hazardous Materials, SWPPP, PM10, Vibration Monitoring, Supervisory Skills, EEOC preferred
- Good working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations
- Experience in contract administration
- Superior interpersonal skills to successfully relate with contractors and site staff members
- Ability to plan, organize and manage multiple tasks
- Good computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work with constant change.
- Excellent observational skills
- Have valid drivers license
- Essential to be comfortable with public speaking
