Position: Nurse Practitioner
Work Location: Mackay

The Nurse Practitioner is an expert practitioner who works autonomously to assess patients and deliver care within a specific scope of practice defined by Health Management Protocols and is a registered nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following key attributes. Within the context of the responsibilities described above, the ideal applicant will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

  1. Extensive Emergency Department nursing experience and demonstrated ability to develop and model practice standards and contribute to development of professional nursing leadership.
  2. Proven competence to practice at the Nurse Practitioner level in the application of clinical problem solving and effective coordination of patient care within the Emergency Department clinical setting.
  3. Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, coordinate and deliver educational activities for individuals and groups within and external to the Emergency Department.
  4. Demonstrated advanced interpersonal, communication and written skills within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  5. Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of quality improvement processes and activities using validated research in clinical practice.
  6. Demonstrated sound knowledge of contemporary human resource/ performance management issues at the broad and specific level including workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination, professional codes of conduct and public sector directives.

Qualifications/Professional registration/Other requirements:
  1. Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a registered nurse and a current annual practicing certificate are mandatory for this position.
  2. Mandatory possession of a Clinical Nurse Practitioner Masters degree and authorisation to practice as Nurse Practitioner by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  3. Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration, if applicable, or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/ manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
  4. Hepatitis B Vaccination: Health Care Workers in Queensland Health whose occupation poses a potential risk of exposure to blood or body fluids must be immunised against Hepatitis B according to the National Health and Medical Research Council Australian Immunisation Handbook and the Queensland Health Infection Control Guidelines
