Job Description:
Rio Tinto Technology and Innovation has a requirement to fill a Field Construction Manager, Technology & Innovation - PDI position within their Project Development and Implementation (PDI) group. The PDI group has a Project Delivery Hub located in Salt Lake City, UT USA.
Technology and Innovation's (T&I) mandate is to increase the contribution of technology to Rio Tinto's vision of industry leadership. Project Development & Implementation (PDI), as part of T&I, provides support and project delivery services across the global Rio Tinto group.
The Field Construction Manger will manage contractors, consultants and field staff to ensure quality construction, assure optimum construction processes, and meet project deadlines. Oversee project safety and guide processes to maximize safety performance. Consult with peers and consultants on construction design. Coordinate with design groups to assure conformance with all drawings and specifications.
Accountabilities:
- Manage and coordinate contractors (60 to 80 craft) to meet project deadlines and budgetary constraints.
- Monitor and reinforce QSI needs
- Monitor QA efforts an verify correct installation of design components
- Oversee construction activities to ensure efficiency and cost effectiveness
- Facilitate weekly coordination meetings and daily oversight with site contractors
- Coordinate with engineering manager to ensure optimum installation
- Resolve issues between designer and contractors
- Lead and proactively direct quality assurance staff
- Manage HSE monitoring programs to maintain conformance with existing and changing Rio Tinto and governmental regulatory standards
- Assist with planning and scheduling efforts
- Review contractor schedules, submittals and answer contract questions regarding contract administration
- Promote cooperation coordination among project team members
- Direct emergency and urgent change work
- Understand the HSE procedures an policies, ensure compliance by contractors
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field
- Minimum 5 years in construction or construction related field
- Possesses efficient organizational skills
- Working knowledge of Windows operating systems
- Ability to administer and manage a broad range of tasks; including resolving complaints, counseling associates and employees on policies and procedures
- Ability to handle multiple tasks
- Oversee safety issues and guide processes to maximize safety performance
- Ability to work and encourage a team based philosophy and system
- Knowledge in contract administration
- Strong Oral and written Skills
